Introduction

Lunara watches are high precision mechanical devices. They are engineered to be as reliable as possible and built to last a lifetime, but still require care. The following page will walk you through how to operate, clean, and care for your Lunara watch.

Operation

The crown on your watch is what you can use to operate your watch. It has 3 functions: winding the watch, setting the time, and setting the date. The crown has 3 positions that will control each function.

  • Winding your watch - The first position (P1) for the crown is to be pressed all the way up against the case of the watch. This is the standard position the crown should stay in. Spinning the crown in an upwards motion will wind your watch, charging it's power reserve. Lunara watches are 100% automatic mechanical watches, meaning they run off of kinetic energy alone. They achieve this by storing power in springs via movement on your wrist as you wear your watch, or manually winding the watch. 30-50 half turns of the crown will completely wind your watch. As mentioned previously, physical movement of the watch will also continuously wind the watch so as you wear it, the watch will maintain power.
  • Setting the date - The second position (P2) for the crown is pulled halfway out. Gently pull the crown away from the case until it clicks into P2. The date can then be set by turning the crown in a downwards rotation. When complete, return the crown to the original position (P1).
  • Setting the time - The third position (P3) for the crown is pulled all the way out. Gently pull the crown away from the case, passing P2. When done the watch will come to a stop. You can then turn the crown to set the time accordingly. When complete, return the crown to the original position (P1). Please note, when the time is turned a full 24 hours, the date will change accordingly.

Cleaning

Lunara watches can be cleaned with a soft cloth. They are water resistant so a damp cloth is permitted if needed. To achieve the best results and restore the mirror polish, a perfectly clean and dry microfiber cloth can be used to wipe down the surfaces. Please note that soaps, detergents, and other chemicals can damage or compromise the gaskets and water resistance of the watch. We recommend only using water, if anything, to clean your watch.

Water Resistance

Water resistance refers to the level of pressure a watch can withstand under water at a certain depth without leaking. The term "water proof" was prohibited by the Federal Trade Commission. Watches come with varying levels of water resistance. Lunara watches are tested to withstand 5 bar (50 meters of depth). This means that they can comfortably handle water pressures of 73 psi without leaking.

The water resistance of a watch can be compromised by various factors.

  • It's important to avoid wearing your watch in the shower or bath, as the chemicals in soaps and shampoos can damage the gaskets and impair the water resistance.
  • Lunara watches can be worn in pools or the ocean, but it should be noted that chlorine and saltwater can compromise a watch if left unchecked. Simply rinse your watch with clean water after coming in contact with chlorine or saltwater.
  • The crown should never be manipulated while submerged in water and should always remain in P1.
  • If your watch has a leather strap, it is important to avoid contact with water as leather is not water proof. A rubber strap or even a nylon "nato" strap should be used instead.

Leather Care

Lunara watches come with leather straps. Though leather is incredibly durable and resilient, there are a few care tips that should be practiced to ensure a long life from your strap.

  • Avoid contact with liquids such as water, oils, and chemicals like cologne. These things can damage leather if left unchecked. If your strap does get wet, simply wipe it clean with a dry cloth. If your strap comes in contact with another liquid substance such as chemicals or oils, us a damp cloth to wipe it clean followed by a dry cloth.
  • Avoid long exposure to heavy sunlight  to prevent discoloration of your strap.

It should be noted that new leather is stiff and takes time to "break in". It will form to the natural shape of your wrist over time.

Lunara straps are treated and ready for wear right out of the box. Overtime, they will age and change as leather naturally ages. They can be conditioned if desired. Conditioning will restore your leather strap to a brighter and shinier look. This can be accomplished with a basic leather conditioning kit.

Sapphire Crystal Care

Every watch is fitted with 2 sapphire crystals, which are often misinterpreted as glass. These crystals are incredibly strong and sit just under diamond on the Mohs hardness scale. This means that they are highly scratch resistant and can be worn with confidence. It is important to note that they are still brittle, meaning they can crack if subject to a direct shock or impact.

To clean your watch crystals, simply wipe with a dry or damp cloth.

Magnetic Fields

It is recommended to keep your watch away from magnetic devices and fields such as security gates at airports or large electronics. Strong magnets can influence the functions and accuracy of your watch.

Shocks and Impacts

Lunara watches are built with resilience and strength in mind, but it should be noted that a hard impact or shock can damage your watch. In the event of a harsh impact or drop, inspect your watch for proper function. Feel free to contact us via support@lunaratime.co if needed.
